Children in Sunday School

Clifton Presbyterian Church Sunday School

At CPC, we want our children and families to know that they are precious in the sight of God, always loved, never forgotten.   We seek to support the children and youth in our church as they grow in their faith.  We walk with them as they live out their faith and follow Jesus Christ at church, at home, at school, and everywhere!  Our Sunday School curriculum helps kids learn about God, explore their faith, and apply it to their lives.

CE Classroom Covenant and Behavior Standards

Pre-K and Kindergarten

Children learn the bible through hands-on play, interactive story-telling, and simple crafts.  This class shows our littlest children that church is a warm and loving experience.  The children learn  who God is, who Jesus is, how much God loves each of them, all about Christmas and Easter, and table graces and simple prayers to use at home and church.  This class does a special visit to the sanctuary to talk about worship and to learn the names of what they see in church every Sunday.

1st Grade/2nd Grade

By opening beginner bibles, this class begins to see how the bible is put together.  As the children learn about the Old and New Testaments, they hear the stories of important people in our scripture: Moses, David, and Noah in the Old Testament, and about the life of Jesus and his disciples in the New.  Teachers use the “Rock Solid” curriculum to tell the stories with the help of games and age-appropriate crafts.  Children also learn the Lord’s Prayer.  This class does a special parent/child class on communion to help families better understand the sacrament and determine when their child will participate.

3rd Grade/4th Grade

Special emphasis is placed on learning Bible stories and how the bible fits together.  Children learn the Gospels and look deeper into the lives of God’s people.  This class begins to relate the bible to daily life, doing mission projects and movie days that relate to the bible story.  Music and worship are also an important part of this class.   The 4th graders have special “bible breakfasts” in the spring with their parents in preparation for receiving a special bible from the church.

From 6th grader “The thing that grows my faith at CPC is being told every time I come here that God loves me.”

5th Grade/6th Grade

As the oldest elementary students in the Sunday School, this group takes on leadership roles in Children’s Chapel, our special worship program for kids, and in Sunday School mission projects for children.  They continue to learn about the bible, looking at the 10 commandments and other “rules” for how to live their faith in school and at home.  They build on the bible learning of the previous years to learn more of the books of the Old and New Testaments.
